BLACKBANK, Ohio — More than just learning about blackboards, the Blackboard app will let you take notes in Spanish on the fly, with no knowledge of the language.
Blackboard, which has been making its debut in the U.S. since June, offers students a way to learn a language that is not their native language.
The app lets students record video, audio, and audio-only lessons using the iPhone’s camera and a webcam, with the videos and audio available in the BlackBoard app.
The app also lets students annotate videos by adding captions, making it easy to quickly learn vocabulary or grammar.
“The app gives students the opportunity to practice writing, drawing, and writing exercises that they could do anywhere,” said Blackboard co-founder and CEO Kristian Norelius.
I think it’s a great way for students to explore a language without being intimidated by it, he added.
This is the first time the Black Board app has been made available in Spanish.
It is a huge step for a new app, which is currently only available in English.
Many other apps, including Google Translate and Skype Translator, already have native Spanish-language versions.
Some schools in the United States have launched Blackboards to provide a more convenient way for English-speaking students to learn new languages, while others have adopted a more traditional approach.
Students in New York City, for example, have a Blackboard course that lets them learn Spanish in a language they can easily speak.
As for what the app will do, Noreleius said it will allow students to take notes on the Black board as they learn.
For example, if they learn a sentence or two in a video, they can go back and review the notes and see where they missed.
If they want to add more notes, they just tap on the “more notes” button and then tap on another button that says “add notes.”
Norelios said the app is a collaboration between Blackboard, the UB English Department, the Department of English and Technology, the Institute for Spanish Studies at the University of Texas, and the Institute of Contemporary Studies.
More than 100,000 students in the world have used Blackboards, and more than 40,000 have completed the course, Noreslius said.
What students need to know before using the app:Students should understand that the Blackboards app will only let them write Spanish phrases, or write in English sentences.
However, if you want to make a note about something that is different from what you already know, or want to learn about something new, then you will need to sign up for a Blackboards account, which costs $29.99.
There is also an online course, available through the app, that allows students to download the Black boards course, as well as learn the basics of writing in English, using a webcam.
While it is a relatively small program, Norslius says Blackboards is not a replacement for a real Spanish class.
When it comes to learning a language, Noredius said, “students need to be prepared and comfortable in order to learn.”
Noreleios said he is excited about the potential of Blackboards for English and Spanish learners.
“It gives students a tool that is convenient, and a place where they can learn, and be encouraged,” he said.
